On Boxing Day, The Donkeys set off for their habitual morning foray and nothing more was seen of them, until their afternoon shadows began to appear at the gates. They reached the first gate and lined up in an orderly fashion. As usual, the security guard, barely lifting his head, pressed the button, and the Donkey Procession made its ponderous way through the gate. One, two, three, four…every day for the past 5 years, the same steps on the same path, through the same gate…the security guard was getting ready to press the button for the second gate when he suddenly noticed a very odd donkey indeed! The last little donkey waiting his turn in the line was…a zebra!

And that is the story of Boxer, the little wild Zebra who joined us on Boxing Day. The Donkeys have just carried on with their daily procession as if nothing extraordinary has happened at all. But we think it’s extraordinary. After all, it’s not every day that you have to give way to a real live Zebra crossing!

The wolves, cast in sterling silver, are the latest of a series of pieces featuring animals from the northern hemisphere. Another new, one-of-a-kind sculpture of a northern hemisphere species features a pair of large-antlered stags running across a bouldered mountainside. Wild mountain boars and a pair of polar bears, one standing and another walking, offer more examples of the artist’s recent creations.

The shift in focus naturally follows Mavros’ own travels, where his hands carve what his eyes have recorded. A recent trip to the mountains of Montana in North America, home to thriving wolf packs, preceded this latest trip to Russia. But returning to Russia, to Moscow, brings a unique excitement.

“I’ve visited Russia a handful of times now, and each return visit I have more friends with whom I’m glad to reconnect and share stories over good food and drink.” Mavros said. “I love the Russian spirit and their appreciation for the natural world.”

The private exhibition includes a range of jewellery for men and ladies. Necklaces, bracelets, cuff links and the famous elephant hair bangle design innovated by son Forbes Mavros will be on hand. Favorites from Patrick Mavros’ desktop accessories and table articles, like candelabra and spoons can also be viewed in Moscow by invitation.

The Patrick Mavros Egg for the Faberge Big Egg Hunt in London

Patrick Mavros contributed a beautiful egg to what promises to be the largest egg hunt ever, a plan hatched by Elephant Family and Action for Children.

Envisioned as record-breaking egg hunt across Central London to raise money for the two respective organizations, the eggs are hidden from now until Easter.

Eggs are envisioned by these charities as representing a fresh start and hope for the future. But these eggs are unlike any you’ve seen before. Jointly presented by Fabergé, there are over 200 beautifully painted and decorated eggs in all sizes and colors.

Patrick Mavros is among the artists asked for their unique interpretation of a decorated egg.

“If a child is asked to name all the types of animals they know, their minds race in excited anticipation. If an adult is asked the same question, their brain reaches far and wide hoping that one or even two of the species will not have disappeared before they get to the end of their list,” Patrick Mavros said. “This egg is to make children happy and to make adults think.”

I love to hang out with Christmas, our bush pig. We found him on Mpata farm, abandoned as an orphan baby pig on Christmas Day a few years back. Now he’s a part of the family—so long as he gets a daily bath. Shorty typically gives him a rinse, which Christmas doesn’t enjoy. When he’s done with the bath, a little game of chase is on….

Forbes Mavros at the Atelier opening with monkey sculpture

Amongst dear friends and 150 guests, the Mavros family welcomed the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Dr The Honourable Navinchandra Ramgoolam for the sensational opening night.

Guests delighted upon arrival at passing through the magnificent animal gate I designed for the entrance. Island ladies modeled the Mauritius Collection jewellery in sterling silver, gold and pearls, giving a first opportunity for Mauritians to see the collection.
